Leaving the post office and walking back to my car, I noticed a twenty-something girl sitting in the passenger seat of a shiny black BMW SUV. She rolled down her window as I approached and said, "Cute hat! Where'd you get it?"
I gritted my teeth. Did she really want to know?
"You wouldn't believe this - it's a hat made for chemo patients. I bought it online, from a store in London."
Our eyes locked for a moment. Her door swung open, and she stood near me.
"I'm so sorry! I'm a colon cancer survivor, my dad is a prostate cancer survivor, my mom is a breast cancer survivor...you will beat this!"
She offered "knuckles", kind supportive words, and faith in the Huntsman Center.
