These words, scrolled across the top of a colorful water color painting by Laurie Maves mean so much.
Every single one of you, who has reached out to me during the last few weeks - to offer words of comfort, support, and guidance,, I dedicate this to you:
" You are always a part of me, no matter the distance, no matter the time - you are always in my heart". Laurie Maves
Not one who was ever emotional before cancer struck, I cried when I read those words. I cried, because they have a truth to them that I had never felt before. And it sucks that it was cancer to bring this about.
You, who sends me emails and texts with the words, "Stay Strong - you can beat this!" You, who brought me dinners on chemo days...
You, who suggests questions to ask my medical team about anything and everything because you care...
You, who offered to take me to the Huntsman and sit with me during the hours of infusions...
You, who randomly text, "I'm heading to the store, is there something I can get you?"
You, who surprised me with cards, and gifts, and smiles...
You, who walked with me, taken pottery class with me... You who stopped by, just to sit and chat, ignoring that my living room is no longer spotlessly clean...
You, who have given me photography jobs because you know that I'm not thinking of cancer when my passion is given the opportunity to be...
You, who reached your hand and heart across the ocean, from around the world, and across the US just to read words I have written...
Thank you, for becoming part of me.
No matter the distance.
No matter the time.
You will always be in my heart.
Laurie has given me permission to share the above image of her work, and a link to her website.
Thank you, Laurie. You, too, are always in my heart.
From Laurie's website:
This work is part of the "You are my number 8" series, a series about love, human connection and the universal experience. Mixed media on gessoed water color paper, these pieces represent your most favorite greeting card of all time on steroids. Laurie Maves has been painting abstracted figures for over a decade. The faces - especially the eyes - run together and cross over, signifying a merging of person to person as well as symbolizing the oneness of humanity. We are all one. Laurie implements handwriting in her artworks and utilizes free writing of her own poetry on most of her artworks with looping messages about love, hope and faith.
