Chemo Day #8

It's odd, now, walking into chemo at the Huntsman. I know the nurses. They know me. I've come to know some of the other patients as well. I've made a few friends, here, too, and we've visited as chemicals dripped through our veins.
And on this chemo day before Thanksgiving...
I am thankful for much. There is a "silver lining" in this after all.
I am thankful for the beautiful friendships that have developed since I've been ill. From the new friends met in chemo - Marina and Kimberly - both amazing women who are battling cancer with humor and strength...
From the walks with parents of students I taught years and years ago...
From the visits by students I have now...
From new friends who have sat with me to do pottery, create a floral arrangement...
From the people who have reached out from across the US and from around the world... From my warrior friend- Caron - who shaved her head with me for a photo shoot. And for Katrina... Who became my sister in words and actions and love and support.
And for Nicole...
Who heard unspoken words between lines
And visits with me almost every Tuesday. It is odd that it took cancer to bring us together.
I am thankful for those who have brought dinners... From amazing homemade lasagna's
Fabulous salads
Homemade Indian food
Pastas Soup! Oh, the butternut squash! The matzoh ball! And the most amazing brisket ever... and many dishes and gift cards for Vessel Kitchen.
Because I don't cook
(Nor would you want me to.)
I am thankful for Image Reborn, for hosting a retreat - a weekend of relaxation...
for many women - all dealing with the throes of cancer
in various stages of recovery. For Dr. Saltz, for answering all of our questions...
about surgery...
about anything health related...
and for dreaming up Image Reborn.
I am thankful for Terri...
who has stood by me -
even though she is in Colorado...
and has fed me words of encouragement
and love and caring
and has shown me how to care and share with others
who are going through a tough time.
I am thankful for a husband who has made sure that
each and every Tuesday -
he is by my side.
Flying in from all parts of the country
and Canada, too...
Giving me all of the emotional support I need
and moral support
and cooking support
and (the list is truly endless.)
And I am thankful for my boys
Who each deal with this cancer
in their own ways.
Because cancer does not just affect one person in a home
But every person
Even LuLa - the dog.
