Four cheers for Lindsey FJ!

There are some people who we cheer from the periphery.

We watch as they do amazing things, reaching out, taking on a challenge.

We think, "I'm glad someone else does this."

Because for some reason, we think we can't.

Or, perhaps, more realistically, because we don't want to.

Kind of like Mikey in the old Life cereal commercials.

"Hey, there is an old dog, needing rescue."

"I'm not going to rescue him. YOU do it."

"I'm not the right one for this..."

"Hey, I know! Let's get Lindsey!"

And fortunate are the dogs of Lindsey.

Many of you may have come across posts where people no longer want or can care for their "old dog".

This is where Lindsey has - time and time again - and twice this month -stepped in and stepped up.

She rescues geriatric canines. Old dogs.

Dogs with problems.

Dogs whose eyes tell of their human companions falling out of love with them.

Dogs whose limbs have lost muscle due to a sedentary several years.

Dogs who have gained weight, making mobilization a chore.

She offers these dogs the best years of their lives.

She showers them with love.

And attention.

And hikes. And when the dog cannot hike, she places him in a stroller. She builds up said dog's stamina.

And the dog loses weight.

Gains muscle.

And starts to run and play like a pup again.

And the eyes of said dog?

They sparkle and seem to smile through the cataracts.

Here's to Lindsey FJ.

Dog rescuer.

Dog whisperer.

And one amazing person.

This is only one aspect of the Amazing Lindsey FJ.

The other?

She's a teacher at Ecker

Who teaches with her heart.

In addition to the regular prescribed curriculum,

She goes beyond. Way beyond.

For the past several years, she has lead her students into

caring and sharing:

For the homeless youth in SLC.

By bringing in jackets and winter wear.

By providing pajamas.

Lindsey doesn't just say, "Hey - bring this stuff in!"

She talks about the root of the problem. She teaches compassion. And she believes this should happen "every day" - not just during the holiday season.

If Park City had a person of the year, I'd nominate Lindsey FJ. Wouldn't you?
