Port Be Gone! Port Removal

Today was a reason to celebrate! The end of infusions and the infusion lab - marked by the removal of the port.

I asked for the least amount of scarring as possible, and so, the PA who has taken out more ports than any doc, cut away at the original scar. She cut away at the scarring deep in my chest, and tugged to remove the port. And then, she stiched, and glued me back together.

In her opening discussion, she said that she normally only offers two pain killers - and I applauded this - as I don't really need or want more than a day's worth But, before I left, she wrote a script for four. She said, "You had a lot of scar tissue. You'll need this." She was right.

I was fine, until the numbing of my chest subsided - and in equal amounts, pain rose.

Yes, it hurts to have your chest cut open and a medical device removed. I didn't think it would be this bad....
